Joel Young is a Partner with the firm.  He has extensive experience in representing a diverse range of clients, both individuals and corporations, in a wide variety of matters.  Before joining the firm, Mr. Young was associated with Gunderson Dettmer LLP, where he acted as lead attorney in many venturing financings and merger transactions involving leaders in technology, telecommunications, alternative energy, and web 2.0.   He was previously associated with Reed Smith LLP, where he represented clients in corporate transactions, compliance matters, and in litigation.
  
Mr. Young’s transactional work has included stock purchase agreements, investor rights agreements, right of first refusal and co-sale agreements, merger closing documents,  employment-related letters, licensing agreements, and professional services agreements.   He has incorporated start-up companies and advised clients regarding general corporate matters, strategic partnering, venture financing transactions, and merger and acquisition transactions.  He has also managed diligence tasks for merger transactions, venture financings, public company SEC filings, initial public offerings and secondary public offerings.
  
Mr. Young received both his bachelors and law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.  As an undergraduate, Mr. Young was a member of the Dean’s Honors List and a four-year letterman in football.  At Boalt Hall he received honors awarded in accounting and finance.
  
Mr. Young is a member of the boards of directors of the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District and the Alameda County Democratic Lawyers Club.  He is also a member and former officer of the Charles Houston Bar Association.  He is admitted to the state bar of California.
